|
|
I've been running 2.5.16w1 for a long time. After reading a number of posts, I decided to upgrade to 2.5.16w3. So I killed the client and replaced mlnet.exe (w1) with (w3). I started the client and noticed that there were no servers. I checked the service.log file and found repeated errors: Exception sendto failed: The requested address is not valid in its context [in sendto next]. I stopped the client and reverted back to the previous mlnet.exe (w1) and no problems connecting to servers. I remember Fabtar referring to a similar situation involving .ini files, but he fixed it with a patch from Knocker.
Thanks in advance. |

If you like to keep with 2.5.16 branch let's get the last mulus core:
http://mldonkey.dyndns.info/index.php?dir=Mulus/0.18.1/
Personal suggestion:
I have used old 2.5.16 for long time, 18.1 versions of knokers are more rececent of your 2.5.16w3. they have worked well but currently they are outdated and the new official mldonkey 2.8.x outperforms them.
Knoker doesn't seem to update his 2.5.1x branch anymore, I think that junping to the official mldonkey branch is the best decision for you.In the future you are in danger to being banned by servers by using too much old mlfdonkey releases.
you need to read the wiki for main differences, configuration issues, new otions and changings in otions meaning.. but you have to that, it is "a must". and it worth the time.
I think I'll do an Howto guide in the future for the official but cuurently the wiki and main page is the place to look for.
Hope useful cheers.
P.s:
If you decite to keep using the 2.5.16 branch jumping to the last 18.x please give a feedback about your impressions and problems.
Cheers |

Personally (PLus) it is tto much time since my 16w3 adventure and I don't remind exactly the solution for your problem.Perhaps Knoker has introduced the Connect only to preferred server's option?
Someties upgrading to a release borke someting in the ini. Let's save/recover your client MD4 and let's do a fresh installation!! (By copying your previous MD4 identification in the right place of new INIs).
The suggestion about picking the alst 2.5.18.x is always the best choice, and the best of the best is going with new official releases.
Let me informed.

Your response has been very helpful. I will go back to the wiki and prepare for the upgrade to the official cores.
I will let you know. |

Happy to be helpful,
Backup your old ed2k's MD4 from 16w's INIs to cut/paste later in new installation.
Cause the tons of differences I suggest a fresh installation of official cores. Do not try to recover old INIs.
Good Luck&fun |

The documentation on the wiki entitled "Clean install" says "Copy client_md4 and client_private_key to keep your credits."
I'm upgrading from 2.5.16w1 (mulus) to 2.8.x (current). I can't find client_private_key in the old donkey.ini file. Does this make sense?
Thanks. |

Older versions doesn't have the secure key (is a data used by Secure identification feeature), you have only the MD4 and you have to copy only MD4.
the key 'll be generated automatically by the official client, thinking better you can alternatively do a full clean install without recovering your MD4, cause I have reminds about Emule clients distinguish between credits of clients with Secure-Identification and without.
Explaining betetr There i chache You are going to lose you creadits in every case.Doing a "blind" clean reinstall could be a simpler way to do the job.
It's your choice.
Jumping to official and secure indentificationis a must for the future, worth losing a bunch of credits. |

It turns out Norton Internet security was blocking the SENDTO request, not the firewall in my router.
I successfully upgraded to 2.5.16w3. Then I tested Mulus 0.18.1. Both worked fine, but I was curious about the official branch's performance. So I tested 2.8.1 and the performance was better. Of course the tradeoff is bandwidth.
Now I'm in the process of tweaking the 2.8.1 configs.
Once again, Thanks for your help. |
