I can find a manual on how to use it.
as said I'm using version 3.1.0
and for the gui I have tried:
the web interface, and KMLdonkey. also the pluging for firefox mldonkey fox protocols handler 0.13
But still no idea on how to send the link. please any help?
Thanks. |

| We need to implement magnet support for bittorrent, because most powerfull trackers are going to refuse of torrent files, here is proof(russian): http://habrahabr.ru/blogs/p2p/139090/ |

Piratebay stopped serving torrent!
We urgently need to support bittorrent magnet links !!
We already have DHT support so this feature shouldn't be hard to implement |

Thanks. |

Magnets / DHT sounds intriguing! Absolutely no trackers needed? (How are peers for a swarm found/updated -- when DHT links to people by the torrent-info-hash, are only they (those in that keyspace) responsible for tracking the swarm? Must read more about it.)
In the meantime, "rtorrent"+"dtach/screen" seems like a great temporary alternative |

I just wish, the mldonkey team would focus on full Gnutella and darknet support, and scrap BitTorrent at the first chance.
<rant>
It’s really silly, how the dumbest, and most backwards protocol of them all, BitTorrent, now adds all the features that were there long before, and people now say “Oooh, what a new, intriguing technology!”.
Have they be living behind the moon??
Technologically, BitTorrent is even below the original Napster! Even Napster had a search function built-in *from the start*! And the ability to *just put the damn file in the folder to share it, and not having to do anything else, like create a torrent*! Then eDonkey added multiple servers, and ed2k links, plus it was fast back then. Later, Gnutella made it all completely decentralized, including the search. With many client implementations, etc. (EDIT: I forgot WinMX, which had really cool concepts, and was a true expert tool.) And finally, darknets made it all fully anonymous and encrypted.
Only for little retard BitTorrent to come, and go back to what is basically a better FTP! Centralized, insecure, and with that completely idiotic concept of having to create torrent files and having to put them on trackers first. Then they noticed all the cool stuff others had, and re-invented the wheel, while acting like they are the very first to ever do it!
It’s ridiculous!

You're being a bit too naive. There's probably a reason why The Pirate Bay uses/used bittorrent, and not the other networks. The utility of torrents actually lies in their dumbness/simplicity. They are guaranteed to work (assuming there are a few seeders) immediately. Ed2k/gnutella/etc might have a lot more content, and other search features, but this also means very long queues and wait times. Torrents actually serve a purpose. (So does ed2k, and gnutella I gues.)
At the time torrents sprang up, I'm guessing only ed2k had comparable hash-links? I don't think gnutella did? And I hear gnutella searches were painful around those years? But, anyways.
Gnutella has darknet support? Or do you mean things like Freenet? If you are in an area that is actually seriously being violently threatened for file-sharing, I would never risk using the former. |

You’re projecting. “probably”? No, mate, there isn’t. Other than it being popular. Which is obviously not a reason since that’s circular reasoning.

Lol. “They are guaranteed to work (assuming the things that would make them not work aren’t the case) immediately.”
Napster/ScourExchange also worked immediately. Popular downloads on eDonkey also worked immediately.
Because they were popular!
The problem with BitTorrent is, that it simply doesn’t have the unpopular downloads, because it’s such a hassle to make one. (The fact that you have to “make one” alone already shows how much of a failure it is.)
In BitTorrent, things are either popular, or dead.
I’ve always said, that the rare stuff… the stuff barely anybody searches for… gets a major disadvantage with BitTorrent. While the popular stuff gets a boost.
Kinda like music charts.
So when you’re the one who isn’t caring for the direction of the stream of the dumb mass, with BitTorrent, you’re at a loss. And for single music files anyway, since nobody goes through the hassle of making a torrent for a single music file. I always have to go back to non-BitTorrent for those things.

And it’s damn worth it!
Those who sacrifice availability of information for speed, deserve neither speed not availability.
(And it’s “information”. Not “content”! Using “content” in that context means still thinking in the old patterns of the media Mafia, where everything was saved on a medium, and that medium was then sold, acting as if one had “sold” the information, even though that’s physically impossible nonsense.)
| Quote: | | Torrents actually serve a purpose. |
Straw-man argument. I never said they wouldn’t serve a purpose. Its purpose is to offer a replacement for FTP that saves bandwith for the server/provider. And it’s misused as a file-sharing network by complete n00bs. The same type of people who use share hosters / upload websites for “file sharing”.
I said it is extremely backwards and more primitive than even Napster. A point which still stands.

Lol, you’re arguing here, and you haven’t even used Gnutella or anything before BitTorrent.
In Germany we have a saying: “Wenn man keine Ahnung hat… einfach mal Fresse halten.”
It means: “If you haven’t got a clue… simply just STFU for once.”

Another deliberate “misunderstanding”. No, I obviously didn’t say that Gnutella is a darknet. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darknet_%28file_sharing%29
*Picard double facepalm*
I’ll finish this discussion now. I recommend you do the same, to avoid making even more of a fool out of yourself. |
