Hi im very new to MLDonkey, i heard it was a great tool for searching for things so here i am.

I've set things up, installed MLDonkey4Windows and i use the sancho GUI for the interface.

I've setup the router to accept the connections that were needed to be established (the default ports for MLDonkey transfer (tcp/udp) from the MLDonkey wiki page, also i have forwarded ports that were found searching this forum i.e for ml to use the networks)

I am a total newb when it comes to MLdonkey, never used it.. Im not a total newb with computers in general i understand routering or port forwarding..

Anyway..

Im getting "High ID" now i've opened the correct ports, i connect to around 5 "monkey" networks and do a search, a lot of files are found and so i download some..

No download has started as of 30mins i get no speed.. not too sure if its because i need to configure a download folder or whatnot, not too sure at all..

Could someone point me in the right direction.. Also i'd like to use the other networks if its possible i have added to the list to be used but none connect (filetp and btorrent do)..

Not too sure,

Please help and thankyou.

Dan

Mldonkey4windows? Can you please tell me the exact version of your core?
Where have you downloaded your mldonkey from?

PLus , you need a bunch of p2p basis...

the best network to activate are:
edonkey/kad/Filetp/BT

Filetp bittorrent are useful to download content from sites providing the links..filetp is for http downloads, BT for bittorrent downloads, so there si no a real search for the content but it is very useful.
Edonkey is the same network as emule and works with searches, but you have to use instinct to find out the best files to download.
You have to leard the best way to do searches with experinece .
The best rule is to choose the version of your file with:
-resonable size
-good comments(you can see commments after you have started the downloads)
-MORE COMPLETE and OVERALL SOURCES!!!

The name and the differetn names for the same file is a proof for the quality of content, the quantity of sources helps to download things quicker.

Edonky is in general the best network with lot of content, the drawback is that i is a bit slow compared to the gnutella network whcihc has not so much content.
The best way is to left your computer uploading/downlaoding for days, sometimes you need half an hour(or more) first to start downloading the files.
You can raise the overall downlaod speed by raising the number of downlaoded files but please do not downlaod useless content Smile you have to respect the bandwith resources of the network.

cheers

P.s: Last sancho release works only with last mldonkey core version, please download it from the official homepage link.

No, all GUIs work with all cores because they negotiate their capabilities.

The GUI sends the highest protocol version it understands to the core, the
core responds with the highest protocol it understands, the lowest value of
both is the one used by core and GUI. So you can use a 2 year old version
of MLDonkey core with newest Sancho and vice versa w/o problems.

It seems to be 2.7.2: http://mldonkey4win.sourceforge.net

Because they do not have eDonkey/Gnutella/Fasttrack style servers.
You need .torrent files for BT and for FileTP you can enter URLs you like to download.

I have misunderstood the changelog (I have missed the real meaning, this is quite strange, Am I tired? )

Code:
* Add basic user/group support
    - add columns to download table, and file details dialog
    - chgrp/chown from download rt-click menu
    [b]- requires latest mldonkey with multi-user support [/b]
    - regex filter works on user/groups as well

I have interpreted the upper bold text as a global bound..but mine was a stupid interpretation, it was clear now it is only for this feature... I have had to think about this cause there is always been backcompatibilty.
What a mistake

The BT and FileTP protocals work but the rest (gnutella2&1, Fasttrack etc) do not even find their servers, well they find a few but never connect..

I think it may be because im using the core of the source above and not the newest core on the main site?.. i was thinking this GUI should really work with any core, i thought all cores were basically the same..

Sacho is a great gui.. are there any other good guis that work with the main MLDonkey core from this site?,

Just like to say cheers for the help..

Dan

Ive got the new core to work after looking through posts..

Basically i needed to delete the .pid and the temp file from within mldonkey directory, i had to change the downloads.ini to work with my network ip so i added it, it reconfigured and worked..

Sacho takes a long time to load though? must say.. it takes around 5 seconds to spawn the core and the gui says spawning after its spawned for around 30-1min then loads?.. lol

Could i ask, is fasttrack, gnu1 and gnutella2 in experimental stage? they connect to a few servers but ones without users? ...

This application would be great if it was built around a GUI with the full network support for all servers.. it would be a dream, do you lads think that this could happen sometime?

Cheers,

Dan

The advantage of mldonkey is for guys who likes or need remote control a lot.
PLus mldonkey4windows is nice package but has a older core inside.
I suggest to find out whre mlnet.exe is located and substitute it with a new core taken from

http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=156414&package_id=174487&release_id=448121

the new version has solved lots of problems, and have updated addresses for all web resources.. my suggestion is "let's stay updated!" Wink

PLus there is no need of 4 donkey servers , set number of servers to 2 , they suffice.
The searches will propagate thru the other servers automaticlallly via UDP.

Ok great, I've got the main core to work with sancho now.. I connect at "high ID" which is good?..

I've opened up the ports for fasttrack, gnutella and gnutella to use (1214, 6346, 6347)

I've come into more problems.. MLdonkey is now deciding to shutdown or close with an error.. It was working last night no problem but now the core loads then when i use the gui it shuts..

Here's my log:

Code:
<xml>
<DATABASE>
<EXE>
    <MATCHING_FILE>
    <MATCHING_FILE>
</EXE>
<EXE>
    <MATCHING_FILE>
</EXE>
</DATABASE>

Dont really understand what it means, i will try to work out the problem myself.. have tried to reinstall the mldonkey core twice.. perhaps its the gui thats the problem?

Cheers,

Dan[/code]
