--ATTN MODS.......PLEASE MAKE THIS A STICKY IMMEDIATELY--

EDIT (spiralvoice): I changed the topic, old topic was:
Quote:
New Windows Users - Read This! (Editorial)

and made a poll out of this.

--Also, please do not delete this thread, as I am not being profane in any way or breaking any rules. I am simply providing my personal opinion of the "software", which is now clearly marked.--

If you're thinking of trying out MLdonkey, immediately and completely wipe all memory of this from your mind and anything else including "ML" and "donkey" anywhere near each other. If you've downloaded the "components" but haven't yet started your installation, stop right where you are and delete them. If you've already started, go to control panel - add/remove programs - and remove this piece of garbage from your hard drive at once. This will save you a lot of time and sanity........trust me........

I know from experience, wasting an entire week (8-10 hours a day) trying to get this bug-fest to work properly. Do yourself a favor and get another client......I recommend Edonkey 2000, which has been by far the fastest for me (3-4 times faster than Emule).

If you do decide to punish yourself and try to get MLdonkey working, don't expect any help from the boards. Seems the people here don't like detailed posts, and if you write "too many words", they will refuse to answer any of your questions thereafter. Apparently they like help threads entitled "HELP ME!". If you do get a response, don't expect them to even have read through your entire post/thread. They will ask questions that were already covered in your thread, then give you a useless link to the "FAQ", if it can be called that (with a staight face).Ask for more help and you will be rewarded with snide remarks and cliches about "pashence the is key" and "praktise make purfeckt" written by people who obviously know little if anything about the English language or grammar in general!

Speaking of the FAQ and installation instructions, have fun trying to follow them. They are all written by someone whose knowledge of the English language is very limited, at best. Oh, and think you'll find a nice set of instructions in one place? Think again! Tiny bits and pieces of the instructions are scattered to all ends of the website, with nothing linking them together. It's a project in itself just to try to piece a complete set of instructions together.......that is if your browser can even handle 15 different windows open at once.......

And......if you think the instructions are correct......you'd be wrong again! Most instructions the fine people of the MLdonkey boards point you to are written for long-discontinued versions of MLdonkey. Follow certain parts of them and you'll be in REAL trouble. Also, it's always helpful when several of the instructions contradict each other..........FAQ writing at its best!

My favorite part of the whole mess is the GUI. The board denziens will advise you to use the "Sancho" GUI, but don't expect it to actually work! Change any options in Sancho and it will modify the configuration files in a way that is unreadable by the core, causing it to refuse to start up!

And want to use the most basic commands in the GUI? They're broken as well. Have fun clicking relentlessly on an option you would like performed while the GUI ignores your input and continues on its merry way, doing as it pleases.........

The core is a fine piece of coding too. My advise would be to manually search through the text configuration files themselves and change the values there......but watch out! A period in the wrong place or a missing semi-colon will prevent the core from even starting, leaving you to waste hours of your precious time combing the text to find the problem. But I guess maybe some of you have time to waste.......and are into masochism.......

And while we're on the subject of the core, just know that between each time you shut it down and restart it, you'll have to go to the folder in which it was installed and delete the completely useless (so they say) temp files it creates, or again, it refuses to start! When you DO start it back up, you'll be greeted with an ever-increasing list of error massages that increase at an exponential rate with each restart. Guess maybe those temp files were needed.........eh MLdonkey devs?

If you decide not to heed my warning and continue on with the installation, I guarantee eventually you'll come to the same conclusion I have...........that MLdonkey is the most incredible piece of crap you've ever (attempted unsuccessfully) used! Just don't say you weren't warned when MLdonkey drives you completely insane and causes you to destroy your own computer with your bare hands........or better yet, you have a stroke from the fury MLdonkey induces and die..........at least then you'll be put out of your misery.......

And finally, if you do ever get it "running" (LoL), you'll be greeted with the "grand finale"..........your modem. Don't expect your modem to stay connected whilst running MLdonkey for even the shortest period of time. No no, that would be far too easy.........and we all know MLdonkey is about making things as difficult as humanly possible! Want to leave MLdonkey running all night? Better get some coffee (or speed), because you're gonna be up late cycling the modem as MLdonkey crashes it every 5-10 minutes. You'll have a glorious time feverishly changing setting after setting in a futile attempt to keep MLdonkey working for more than 5 minutes at a time. Then emjoy trying to make it reconnect using commands that don't work!

Keep in mind, this is all from someone who BUILDS COMPUTERS FOR A LIVING and has been working with them for 10+ years, since the age of 4........

In closing, happy MLdonkey-ing to all you masochists out there.........if you're into self-torture, you're certainly in the right place!

quite funny...
Well I use MLD on Windows. And I have to say it has its shortcomings but still I like it.
So just because you have problems it doesn't mean everybody will have a problem.

Every time I thought I had it runing properly i ran into yet another bug in program. Every word he speak is true and identical to my experyence. Listen to the man, he know what he talks about! Actualy, I think he being kind, and to answer post question no it not work. Not on cold day in hell. Why no vote for hell no?

lol, this might be the funniest post i ever read! Funny as hell, but all true, to the letter. I've tried MLD several times, each time a few months apart to see what progress had been made. Progress? MLD? Haha! The only progress that is made is adding more bugs and making MLD more difficult to use.

It no wonder MLD don't catch up to other clients in user base. I hear gripes about it on their forum, but is it really a mystery? Only for linux users i Suppose. Anyone that has tried a win install knows well why MLD isn't as popular as the others. I'll summarize the problem in 3 words: peace of trash!

MLD is sorta like a retarded Mcdonalds worker. They try oh so hard, but never quite get it right.

Oh and he speaked of the forums. I forgot my user name, but i had many help posts once when trying to run MLD. I swear the bastards there didnt even read my post and just put links to random help pages that were impossible for a normal english speaking person to understand. When i asked for more help, they made fun of me in "snide" horrible english sounding like fools. Bastards!

Anyway, there my experience with it. Take it as you want.

Good spotting.
MLdonkey_KILLA = Pi_2

Host source for I_Hate_ML_donkey could be an open relay (first guess, first success : something's waiting on port 1080...), so who knows...

LoL........others think ML is garbage as well so it automatically has to be me? Quite an arrogant attitude.........but that's to be expected on THESE boards!

I take offense to the implication that I posted via another name. Why bother? MLdonkey is doing a fine job driving away users on its own.......I have no doubt the poll will show this, and am actually interested to see the ACTUAL results.........not to mention Donkey Killa appears to be from another country and his/her grammar is awful......but that's nothing new on THESE boards!

He obviously came over from the Emule forums, where this helpful warning is also posted so other poor, unknowing innocents don't fall into MLdonkey's vile, evil clutches and have countless hours of their lives whisked away by a client that you people claim works fine, but in all actuality is a poorly constructed bug-fest that is nigh-impossible to get running for more than 5 minutes at a time!

Just so you all know, I don't have any vendetta against ML......I came in with a totally objective and unbiased opinion, and worked UNBELIEVABLY hard to actually get ML working properly, wasting what basically amounts to a full week of my life fussing with an inaccessable, completely unuseable piece of garbage. I'm simply saying what everyone that has attempted to use the Windows XP version of MLdonkey already knows........it doesn't work.

Aside from its failure at performing its intended purpose, I do think it would be good for another purpose............some sort of government torture device to extract information from terrorists. You could set them down in front of a couputer and force them to toil away, trying futiley to get MLdonkey running until they crack from the fury and confusion it induces and go utterly insane.

Anyway, blah blah blah..........I'll stop writing "too many words"..........as I'm sure the fine denziens of MLdonkey's forums are already completely confused, heads spinning, unable to process proper english. Next time maybe I'll post in grunts and growls, which seem to be more their speed.

Oooga-booga all!

(No offense Spiral..........you're the exception and the only bright spot MLdonkey has going for it. Perhaps you should think about putting your considerable skills to work on a more worthwhile project, since from my experience MLdonkey seems to be a lost cause. Your skills and helpful nature are obviously wasted here. Please.......shut it down and cease to punish the poor, innocent people who wander into the putrid clutches of the monstrosity known as MLdonkey.)

Your emule's posts are already deleted by emule's moderators and you have been banned from emule's community (you have changed name to pi_3 .... why??).
The bunch of emule's guys posting here have immediatly understood you are only incompetent or simply you have no the attitudes and base knowledges to manage any application( userfrienldy and not userfriendly both).
Your fault is simply caused by your lack of skills&knowledge , your flame is easily explanable cause your young age.
Be more fair and polite in the future.
Cheers

Can I vote too? This is "Pi's" fiance'. I watched him work on that stupid thing and ignore me for a whole week! I kept begging him to give it up and just start using Edonkey again, but he swore it would be worth it and a wonderful program when he got it working. Needless to say, that never happened. I was as furious as him by the end. I saw the replies to his posts and was as disgusted as he was. I never saw him so mad, either. He would have pulled all his hair out if he had any, haha - he has hair, not bald, just shaved, haha. And he really does work at a local shop building computers and is on the computer all the time, so I can vouch for him on how good he is with them. I work on our state's electrical company computers myself, but I never seen someone as good as he is. I tend to think if he couldn't get it running, not many could.

PS - I watched when he would open the program up, it would work fine, then close it and try to open again. It wouldn't work anymore! Everytime! I cant believe anyone would really use such a program that need to be fixed every time you run it. No offense to everyone wholikes it but I just wanted to vouch for him that hes not making all this up. He really thought it would be a great program in the beginning otherwise he wouldn't have put a week into trying to get it to work.

Thanks

I donīt regard MLDonkey a waste of time. In the last days I worked a lot on the Windows
port to fix some stuff you did not even stumble over. When doing this I restarted the core
approx. 100x and NEVER had corrupted ini files.
Pi_2 wrote:

Unfortunately I am not a native speaker of Shakespears mother tongue so I donīt understand
the actual meaning of each word you wrote yet I got the sense, but I think you are wrong
with your allegations.

Some people might even regard you already as a troll. Take the moving of your posting to the
bin on the eMule forum as a sign for that.

No one is forced to use MLDonkey, take it or leave it.

PS: Until today you never posted the link to the FAQ with the bad english...

fabtar, you are truly an idiot. Do yourself a favor and don't post anymore, you just make yourself look more ignorant each time.

By the way, I didn't get banned, I just have a couple different user names there from different computers on my network. I'll start a post by the other name if you'd like it proved to you. And they didn't delete the messages.....they moved them to the flame bin. They didn't realize that they weren't meant as flames.....they were a TRUE review from someone unbiased going in! Guess you can't realize that unless you've actually suffered through the torture of trying to use MLdonkey.

From the sounds of it, you're not smart enough to even operate a P2P program, much less the uneccessarily difficult MLass, but if by some miracle your simple mind was able to figure it out, I'm sure you did it on a Linux OS. Had you tried on a Windows machine, you'd be voting along with me right now (IF you're smart enough to figure out how that feature works).

I can just see fabtar now, sitting in his dark room, huddled over the keyboard, typing feverishly. He's no doubt between 7-13 years old, home schooled, and possibly mildly retarded. His skin is most certainly a ghastly white from lack of sunlight due to his obsession with message boards and chat, his only friends. Should even the tiniest sliver of light filter in through his heavily curtained windows, he shrinks away as if he were a vampire and the light would kill him..

He's fat, unattractive, and has never had a girlfriend save for a couple "relationships" he's had on "dating" websites where a fat, raunchy old man replies to you and acts like a woman for a fee. Knowing his type, he probably wouldn't care if it WAS a man on the other end as long as the man had an nice, operable orfice in his body with which fabtar could satisfy his surging hormones surging hormones.

He probably wears a diaper or some other sanitation device, since he refuses to leave his precious message boards for anything, let alone something as trivial as defecation! His face is surely speckiled with severe acne..........either that or some other hideous deformity. He still refers to his mother as "mommy" and quite possibly has an intimate "relationship" with his family dog or cat.

His father is no doubt totally disgusted with his "son" and the entire situation, and comes home only after he has drunken himself to near-oblivion. I'm sure bedsores have long since formed on fabtar's buttocks from sitting in front of the computer all day, every day.......

Am I close fabtar? You probably wonder how in the world I'm so accurate, don't you? LoL........it's because I've seen you! They have your picture up here:

http://www.uglypeople.com/voting.php?next=dXBsb2FkZWQvMTg2MDkvdWdseTE0LmpwZw==

I could post a million examples of your stupidity, but that might be "too many words" for your simple mind to comprehend (say, you're the idiot that made that post too, aren't you, LoL).

I won't bore the readers by listing the entire catalog of fabtar's idiotic ramblings, I'll just list a couple of the "greatest hits" below:

Quote:
This guys has writed a lot of poems like this in mldonkey forum

- My posts would be pretty sad were they meant to be "poems", little fella. Maybe you should learn the definition of "poetry" before you go and start using big words like that and make yourself look foolish......

Quote:
Mldonkey is not intended for newbies and he is a *nix application recently ported to windows, this is not his native platform

- LoL, I didn't know MLdonkey had a gender! fabtar just imagines it does because he has fantasies of being "intimate" with a donkey........

Quote:
An insane kilometric poem!!!

- Oh? I don't see a poem anywhere and wasn't aware the metric measurement system had anything to do with poems in general.......

Quote:
mldonkey is a valuable piece of software

- Anyone that can say this with a straight face while refering to the Windows version is obviously a blithering idiot.........

Quote:
Run mldonkey as service with run mldonkey

What the hell?!?!?!

Quote:
I hope you find this tip useful , this is the last help I give to you.

Oh, what a terrible shame.....and your posts were so helpful and informative too.......

And finally, the classic.......

[quote]you have to try to write things in less words for me cause i kinda retarded[quote]

- ok, ok, I admit I added that last part, LoL.......but that's what he would have said if he were being truthful......

Anyway, your nonsensical blabbering is just making MLdonkey look worse and worse. If you WANT to stand up for MLdonkey, doing so without posting would be a good idea, as with each post you make MLdonkey forum members look increasingly ignorant and abrasive, just verifying my review of them!

Well, that's it for now. Don't worry, little guy, you'll get the hang of the english language one of these days. Keep at it, little fella.....oh, and for god's sake, spend your time toilet training yourself instead of fussing with a buggy program that doesn't work and posting your nonsensical ramblings on forums intended for adult, english speaking, non-retarded members (Spiral, you should make an IQ test a requirement to become a member and post......just a suggestion to weed out the trash like fabtar).
